My smallest dragon yet! Contrary to what it looks like in the photo, I'm not holding him with any of my fingers, he's sitting all by himself on my thumb. He perches on his own on my thumb, the base of my fingers, and on the wrists of super dollfies. He's actually pretty steady, and when sitting on the side of the hand, his tail fits loosely between my fingers for extra security. I'm thinking of calling him Dairo. (rhymes with Cairo). Yes, for once I've posted the painted version!

This little guy was an experiment on my part, which has had mixed success. He is actually made of two different kinds of sculpey--his head and torso is normal sculpey, while his wings, legs, and tail are sculpey bend n' bake. The wings/legs are heavily wired and were never intended to bend (I did it to lower the risk of cracking during handling), but the extra-long tail was mean to wrap loosely around whaever he's sitting on. I learned two things from this project. One: sculpey bendy is way harder to work with than sculpey. It has a very difficult consistency and it fought me the whole way (why did I do individual scales again? why? why?). Two: if you overbake sculpey bendy, it becomes hard and won't bend. XD So, that part failed, but in the end I'm glad I used it, because even though it won't bend, it has a very slight give. I'm sure the tail would've cracked a dozen times by now without it.

Another thing I learned: I thought small would be easier and faster. Boy was I wrong. smaller is harder! smaller is excruciatingly difficult!

But anyway, I'm happy with him. ^_^ He was going to be black and white till my mom told me he looked like a skunk. I think I'm finally happy with the color scheme, even if it's a bit odd. He insisted it be this way! He did! It looks a lot better in person. And he's so much fun to carry around!

Anyway, sculpey and sculpey bend n' bake over a wire, mesh, and foil armature. Set with glass eyes and painted with acrylics and a matte varnish.

Fabulous detail for such a tiny piece.

Is the tail shaped on the end? I can tell the scales stop short of the end of the tail, and it looks like I might be looking at the side of a spade shaped tail.

You should emulate your heros, but don't carry it too far. Especially if they are dead. - Unknown
