This little fellow is my first full sculpey piece, and I am so proud of him. Oriental dragon of my own design (based of course on the traditional oriental dragon, but in my own style and with some differences), made of sculpey, wire, and foil, with glass eyes. I really wanted to capture the movement and flow I always thought those dragons should have--and the flexibility! Its a wonderful form to work with, so many things you can do with a build like that, but at the same time I wanted to to be realistic--belieavable. So this playful guy was born! (he looks more playful from his other sides, this is his mellower side). He's, like, my artistic masterpiece, and for once I'm actually pleased with something I did (although my feelings are still ambiguous about the very large tail fan, which is for swimming. but, enough of my rambling).

This is the alabaster white version; I'm now experimenting with it in reds, but I consider this to be a finished version in its own right (because he's just so charming in white).

Wow that's incredible, nice work! Did you use regular sculpey and bake it in the oven? With the glass eyes already in? The detail is insane, but the scales look fantastic :)

Thank you! Yup, just regular sculpey baked in my kitchen oven. :) The eyes are baked in because I molded the eyebrows around them to get the expression I wanted (in fact, I started out with plastic eyes till I realized I'd need to bake them in..and that bad things happen to plastic in ovens. the glass eyes ended up looking nicer anyway!).
