Needle Felted Dragonair

Description

Dragons and wyverns and things with wings/legs/glass eyes all look nice, but they are a pain in the butt to make. Sometimes I just want to felt and relax without it being exhausting. When that happens, I make pokemon.

Dragonair is made entirely out of colored wools, except for a wire run down her middle that makes her gently posable. She also has an apoxie sculpt horn painted in acrylics and coated in matte gel (i.e. a varnish). She's approximately 16 inches long and is super fun to pose! I like the serpentine body type. Maybe I'll do more.

Needle felting, to summarize briefly, is a technique used to create what are essentially 'wool sculptures'. There's no sewing involved; instead, by punching the raw wool thousands of times with special barbed needles, you transform it into felt, and can control the shape of the felt.

Before you ask, yes, that's a corn snake in the fourth picture. His name is Jasper. He probably wants me to stop putting pokemon in his tank.

Materials: Wool, felting needles, wire, needle nose pliers, apoxie sculpt, acrylic, matte varnish.

Dragonair and all other pokemon are copyright to Gamefreak and Nintendo. I just make things out of wool. (Gotta catch 'em all, Pokemon!)
